Reconnecting Your TruLight Box to Wi-Fi
Reconnect your TruLight controller box to Wi-Fi after changing your network, getting a new router, or experiencing a disconnection.
This module walks you through reconnecting your TruLight controller box to Wi-Fi after changing your network, getting a new router, or experiencing a disconnection. You'll learn how to use the app's pairing mode to establish a fresh connection in just a few steps.
By the end of this module, you will be able to:
- Identify the disconnected device state in the TruLight app and respond correctly
- Put your TruLight box into pairing mode using the Configure Network option
- Successfully reconnect the box to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network by entering your credentials
Entering Pairing Mode
How to recognize a disconnected box in the app and use Bluetooth to enter pairing mode so you can assign a new Wi-Fi network.
Key Concepts
Recognizing a Disconnected Device
When your TruLight box loses its Wi-Fi connection — because you changed your network password, got a new router, or switched internet providers — the app will show a "Device Disconnected" message when you tap the box. You have two options at that point: Remove Device (which deletes it entirely and requires a full re-setup) or reconnect it. This module covers the reconnect path — no need to delete anything.
Using Bluetooth to Connect to the Box
Before you can assign a Wi-Fi network, the app needs to talk to the box over Bluetooth. Tap the + button in the top corner of the app, then tap the Wi-Fi symbol that appears. This initiates a Bluetooth scan. Make sure you're physically close to the box — within a few feet — so your phone can detect it. Once connected, you'll land inside the box's settings screen where you can run firmware updates or configure the network.
Putting the Box into Pairing Mode
Inside the box settings, tap Configure Network Mode (called Network Distribution Mode on Android), then tap Confirm. The box will now enter pairing mode and be visible to the app as a Wi-Fi setup target. You won't see any visual feedback on screen — this is normal. When prompted, go back to the very beginning of the pairing flow and tap the + button again.
Action Step
Open the TruLight app right now, tap your box, and confirm you can see the box settings screen (firmware update option visible). If you can, you're ready for Lesson 2. If not, try moving closer to the box and repeating the Bluetooth connect steps.
Entering Your Wi-Fi Credentials
How to select your Wi-Fi network in the app, enter your password correctly, and confirm a successful connection.
Key Concepts
Selecting the Right Network
After the box enters pairing mode and you press + again, the box will appear in the app's Wi-Fi list. Your phone must already be connected to the Wi-Fi network you want to assign to the box — the app uses your phone's current network as the target. Critical requirement: the network must be 2.4GHz. TruLight boxes do not support 5GHz Wi-Fi. If your router broadcasts both bands with the same name, you may need to check your router settings to connect your phone to the 2.4GHz band specifically before proceeding.
Entering Your Password and Confirming
Once you select the network, enter your Wi-Fi password and tap Continue. A spinning circle will appear while the box connects. When it completes, the box is back online. The whole process takes about 30 seconds once the password is entered.
Action Step
Check your phone's current Wi-Fi connection right now. Confirm it says 2.4GHz (or that your router's 2.4GHz band is what you're connected to). If you're on 5GHz, switch before running through the reconnection flow.
Summary
What You Learned:
- A "Device Disconnected" alert means the box needs to be re-paired to Wi-Fi — not deleted
- Bluetooth is the bridge used to access the box's network settings
- TruLight boxes require a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network; 5GHz will not work
