The Ocean Plastic Crisis

Every year, over 11 million tons of plastic enter our oceans, choking marine life, contaminating our food chain, and destroying ecosystems. In Guatemala alone, the Maria Linda and Achiguate rivers carry 3.2 million pounds of plastic into the Pacific Ocean every single year, making the Maria Linda the most polluting river on the west coast of the Americas.

But the most effective solution isn't cleaning up the ocean after the fact. It's about intercepting plastic before it gets there. That's exactly what Tidey Ocean does. And that's why we partnered with them.

About Tidey Ocean

Tidey Ocean is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Orem, Utah that stops ocean-bound plastic at its source. Instead of waiting for plastic to reach the open ocean, Tidey intercepts it at rivers, beaches, and mangroves, the last stop before it becomes unfixable.

Their three-part model is what sets them apart:

  • 1Community Collection Hubs: Local workers exchange collected plastic for fair wages, food, and clean water, creating economic opportunity in communities that need it most.
  • 2Organized Cleanups: Coordinated cleanup operations in rivers, coastal neighborhoods, and mangrove forests remove massive amounts of waste before it enters the ocean.
  • 3Blockchain-Verified Recycling:Every pound of plastic collected is tracked using BanQu™ blockchain technology, ensuring full transparency and verified recycling. No greenwashing.

To date, Tidey Ocean has collected over 1 million pounds of trash and funded thousands of fair wage workdays in developing communities, proving that environmental action and economic empowerment go hand in hand.

Verified Impact

Blockchain tracking means every pound is accounted for. This isn't a feel-good claim. It's verified, measurable impact.

People-First Approach

Tidey doesn't just clean plastic. They create real jobs with fair wages in communities that need opportunity.

Source Interception

They stop plastic at rivers and coastlines, the most effective point of intervention before it's lost to the open ocean.

More Than Cleanup. It's Fair Work.

In many developing countries, plastic waste isn't just an environmental problem. It's an economic one. Tidey Ocean turns that problem into opportunity by paying community members fair wages to collect, sort, and process plastic waste.

Workers at Tidey's collection hubs exchange plastic for compensation, food, and clean water. This creates sustainable income in regions with limited job opportunities, and gives people a direct stake in keeping their communities clean.

When you install TruLight, you're not just removing plastic from the environment. You're funding real jobs for real people in the communities that need them most.
