TruLight vs Minleon: The Full Breakdown
Minleon has been in the lighting business a long time, and their Pebble light is a solid product. We put one next to a TruLight light and went through all of it: the hardware, what it takes to install, and the app you live with afterward.

Here's the Bottom Line
Minleon builds a good light. Ordered with the RGBW option it has a real dedicated white channel, it runs a four-wire redundant data system, and the same UCS7604 chip we use is available on it, which few other brands the video covers offer. Credit where it is due. The gap shows up in two places. The first is the install: Minleon's own guide says cutting or splicing voids the warranty, and the track is PVC rather than aluminum. The second is the app. Minleon publishes the P50T as compatible with NDB+, WEC3+ and MeshTek, and this compares the WEC3 and Pixel Dancer combination in the video, which groups controllers rather than offering true software zones, and which the dealer in the video could not use to pick out a single light. Minleon's WEC3 Web UI does include a per-pixel mapper, so that limit is the app rather than the system, and a newer app version may have closed it.
Six LEDs vs two
TruLight puts six LEDs in every node. The P50T Pebble compared here runs two, though Minleon also publishes a four-LED Pebble. Ordered with the RGBW option it is a real RGBW light like ours, but the output is not in the same class, and that is the feedback we hear from dealers who have run both.
Cut and splice anywhere
TruLight lights are spliceable with ordinary 16/4 wire, so an installer works to the roofline instead of to a strand length. Minleon ships fixed strands in set lengths, and its own installation guide says splicing or cutting them is unsupported and voids the warranty. The presenter understood that to mean a single dead light requires swapping the whole strand, which is his read rather than something Minleon publishes.
144 patterns and true zoning
TruLight has thousands of presets, 144 moving patterns, individual light selection, and true global zoning. Pixel Dancer advertises roughly 15 effects and grouping at the controller level. The dealer in the video found no way to select a single light or build a software zone, though a newer app version may differ.

*LED Chip: Most permanent lighting brands the video covers use the WS2811, a 3-in-1 RGB chip. The UCS7604 is a 4-in-1 RGBW chip with a dedicated warm white channel. Minleon's published Pebble datasheet lists the UCS5603 as standard and the UCS7604 as an option. Their other fixtures use a range of chipsets, including the WS2811 and the UCS8903.
*LEDs Per Node: This page compares the P50T Pebble, the two-LED 24V version. Minleon also publishes a four-LED RGBW Pebble, so treat the two-LED figure as specific to the variant compared here rather than to every Pebble.
*RGBW With Dedicated White: Minleon's datasheet lists R-G-B as standard and R-G-B-WW at roughly 3000K as an option. Ordered with that option the Pebble is a genuine RGBW light with a dedicated white channel, which is one of the areas where they do it right.
*System Voltage: Minleon's published Pebble datasheet specifies a 24 VDC input. The video speculates the LEDs could tolerate more, but Minleon does not publish that, so we go with the datasheet.
*Wiring System: Both systems carry power, ground, data, and a redundant data line, so a single data fault does not take the whole run down.
*Track Material: Minleon's Pebble datasheet lists 3-foot PVC track sections, item RM-TC03, and a polycarbonate bulb housing. The video describes the track as acrylic and plastic and mentions rumors of an aluminum track coming. Either way it is not extruded aluminum today.
*Cut and Splice On Site: Minleon lights come in fixed strands of 25, 10, 5, 2, and 1, joined with their own connectors. Minleon's own installation guide states that splicing or cutting the light strings is unsupported and will void the manufacturer's warranty.
*Single Light Repair: In the video this is described as the installer's understanding rather than something we tested ourselves.
*Presets: Pixel Dancer ships preset colour sets for holidays, a security preset, and team colours for four sports. You pick the set, the app picks the colours, and you can then apply an effect on top.
*Individual Light Selection: In the app, Pixel Dancer advertises a dark bulb option and colour stretching rather than free selection of any light, and the dealer in the video could not find a way to pick out a single light. Minleon's WEC3 Web UI does include a per-pixel mapper, so the limitation is the app rather than the system. A newer app version may also differ.
*True Global Zoning: Pixel Dancer advertises grouping of controllers through its cloud network. Separately, Minleon's WEC3 guide documents a Pixel Mapper in the controller Web UI that assigns each pixel to an effect, and its own tip suggests using it for different roofline peaks. That is an installer tool rather than something a homeowner drives from the app, and it is not the same as selecting arbitrary lights and saving them as a named software zone.
*App: Pixel Dancer is published by Rainmin Illumination. Minleon and Rainmin present themselves as one vertically integrated business, so treat this as a different app rather than an outsourced one.
Can You Cut and Splice Minleon Lights?
No. Minleon lights come in fixed strands of 25, 10, 5, 2, and 1, and they join with their own connectors. If an eave needs 27 lights, you build it out of a 25 and a 2. If it needs 33, you work out another combination. Ordering means predicting those combinations before you get on the roof.
The bigger issue shows up later. As it was described to us, because the strand cannot be opened, one dead light means replacing the entire strand it sits in. On a run of 25, that would take 24 working lights down with it. We have not tested that ourselves, and it is worth asking Minleon directly.
TruLight lights are spliceable. An installer cuts where the eave ends, splices in ordinary 16/4 wire, and jumps to the next run. Ordering is one number: total footage multiplied by 1.33, because the lights sit every nine inches.

Minleon's own Pebble datasheet lists 3-foot PVC track sections. The video describes the track as acrylic and plastic. Either way it is not aluminum. TruLight uses extruded aluminum, mounted below the fascia or soffit. Aluminum holds its shape and protects the lights better. It also ages differently than plastic does through sun and snow.
There are rumors that Minleon is moving to an aluminum track. Their Pebble light has been out since 2019, so it has been a while coming. Minleon also offers a magnetic version that attaches to a back plate.

Plenty. Minleon started in 2005 and founded Minleon USA in 2008, doing commercial Christmas displays, city decorations, theme parks, and municipal work long before permanent roofline lighting became a category. They are not new at this.
Ordered with the RGBW option the Pebble is a real RGBW light with a dedicated white channel, and it runs a four-wire system with redundant data, exactly like TruLight. If the data line takes a hit, the system keeps running instead of going dark halfway through the house. Many of the systems the video covers are three-wire and cannot do that.
The same LED chip we use is available on it. Most brands in this category use the WS2811, which is a 3-in-1 RGB chip. Minleon's datasheet lists the UCS5603 as the Pebble's standard chip, with the UCS7604, a 4-in-1 RGBW chip with a dedicated warm white channel, as an option. The video describes it as a more expensive part, and few of the brands it covers offer it besides us. If you want to read up on the difference, here is a good place to start.
One thing worth noting on warranty: in the video the speaker puts the Pebble chip at 100,000 hours and believes Minleon backs it for only 50,000. Minleon publishes neither figure on the Pebble datasheet, so treat both as his read rather than established specification. On voltage, that datasheet does specify a 24 VDC input.

This is where the two systems separate the most. Pixel Dancer is published under the Rainmin Illumination name, and it is basic. It runs roughly 15 effect buttons, things like chase, blend, fireflies and sparkle, against 144+ moving patterns on ours, and it has no animated preview of a pattern on a sample house. Presets work differently than you might expect: you pick a holiday, the app picks the colors, and you can put an effect on top.
Pixel Dancer advertises grouping of controllers rather than the per-light software zones TruLight uses. The dealer in the video also could not find a way to select an individual light in the app, so a customer asking for just their peaks and corners was a hard request to fill from the phone. Worth being straight about it: Minleon's WEC3 guide documents a Pixel Mapper in the controller Web UI that does assign individual pixels to effects, and it suggests exactly that roofline-peaks use. It is an installer tool rather than a homeowner one, and a newer version of the app may have closed the gap. He also reported repeated connectivity trouble and callbacks from customers who could not keep the system connected.
The app carries a 2.8 rating on Google and 3.9 on Apple as of this recording.
TruLight has thousands of presets, 144 moving patterns, and adjustable density, speed, brightness, and color. You can select individual lights, save that selection as a global zone, and then run that zone completely independently of the rest of the house.
