Getting Into the Box and Finding Patterns
How to open your TruLight box and navigate to the Patterns section.
Key Concepts
Opening Your Box
On the main screen of the TruLight app, look for your box in the top right corner — it will say TruLight and show its status. If it shows Online, tap the center of the box tile to open it. This is your control center for everything the box does.
Finding the Patterns Tab
Once inside the box, look at the bottom of the screen. You'll see tabs including Zones and Patterns. Tap Patterns to open the pattern library. This is where all your preset and custom patterns live.
Action Step
Open the TruLight app, tap your box to enter it, and navigate to the Patterns tab at the bottom. Just get there — don't activate anything yet.
Browsing and Activating Preset Patterns
How to browse the pattern library, pick a solid color or preset, and toggle a pattern on so it runs on your lights.
Key Concepts
Picking a Solid Color
At the top of the Patterns screen you will see a color selector. Tap any color and it applies immediately. This is the quickest way to set a single solid color on your lights.
Browsing Default Patterns
Below the color picker is the Default Patterns section. Scroll through a large library of presets organized by theme including holidays, effects, and more. Tap any pattern name to select it, then toggle it on and your lights switch to that pattern instantly.
Previewing a Pattern
To see more details before committing, tap the center of the pattern tile. This opens the pattern editor where you can see exactly what colors are in it and how the effect looks before making any changes.
Action Step
Browse the Default Patterns section and find one you like. Tap it to select it and toggle it on. Watch your lights switch to the new pattern. Then tap into the center of that pattern tile to open the editor.
Customizing Colors, Effects, Speed, and Density
How to open the pattern editor and fully customize a pattern by changing effects, adding or removing colors, and adjusting speed, brightness, and density.
Key Concepts
Changing the Effect Type
Inside the pattern editor you will see effect options like Chase and Static. Tap any effect to switch how the pattern moves. Chase makes colors scroll across the house. Static holds them in place. Experiment to find what looks best for your setup.
Adding and Removing Colors
Every pattern is made up of color segments. Tap the plus button to add a new color, pick from the selector, and tap Confirm. The new color gets added as an additional segment making that color appear longer on your house. To remove a color tap the X on that color tile.
Speed and Brightness
Two sliders let you tune how the pattern runs. Speed controls how fast the effect moves. Brightness controls how intense the colors appear. Adjust both until it looks exactly how you want.
Density
The density slider controls the length of each color strand. Lower density means shorter strands so colors alternate more frequently, almost every other light. Higher density means longer continuous runs of each color. This changes the whole feel of the pattern significantly.
Action Step
Open any preset in the editor and make at least three changes: switch the effect type, add one new color, and adjust the density slider. Watch how each change affects the preview. Tap Confirm to save or go back without saving.
Saving Your Favorite Patterns
How to save any pattern to your Favorites so you can find it instantly without scrolling through the full library.
Key Concepts
Swiping to Favorite
In the pattern list, find any pattern you want to save. Swipe left on it and a star icon will appear. Tap the star to add it to your Favorites. The pattern is now pinned for instant access.
Accessing Your Favorites
Favorited patterns appear together under the Favorites section at the top of your pattern library. No more scrolling through dozens of presets to find the one you use every week.
Action Step
Find a pattern you would actually use regularly. Swipe left on it and tap the star to favorite it. Then check your Favorites section to confirm it saved.
